Sundays x La Grange - Friends edition
Experience Overview
George and Anouk are excited to invite you to the first of many weekends we are planning to host at the farm. This will be a chance for us to test out an itinerary, while also sharing a special weekend with you all.
Set in the nearing of Brittany’s mystical Broceliande, join us for a two-day adventure at a 16th century farm-manor. With a group of 10 to 15 participants, George and Anouk have carefully crafted a programme combining delicious local food and landscape discovery, yoga in the newly renovated barn, and gathering at night for dinner and games by the fireplace
Location: Saint-Jean, Saint-Malon-sur-Mel, 35750 Brittany, FRANCE
Duration: 3 days, 2 nights
Dates and time: Friday 8th April 2022, 2pm - Sunday 10th April 2022, 1pm
About the experience
Brittany is a diverse region in northwestern France and a historic country with a distinct cultural identity, known for its own ‘Breton’ dialect, traditional dances and local cuisine.
At its heart is the beautiful forest of Broceliande, which offers incredible walks and has been steeped in Arthurian mythology for many centuries. Most notably, it is host to the tomb of the legendary figure of Merlin, but also links to the Lady of the Lake and the Knights of the Round Table.
For this adventure, we will gather at Saint-Jean, founded in the 13th Century by the Templars and passed through many hands and generations since.
On Day 1, after some refreshments, we will go for a walk between horse paddocks around the farm’s 30 hectares guided by Anouk’s mother, Christine who has been breeding horses at Saint-Jean for the past 16 years. After stretching our travel legs through yoga in the barn, Albert Meroue will lead a Lebanese cooking workshop, introducing us to his home country’s cuisine. After enjoying the delicious resulting homemade meal, we will gather for some games around the fireplace.
On Day 2, after morning yoga and breakfast, we will venture into the forest where you can choose between a running or walking group to explore the beautiful green sights. Regrouping by the Pont Dom Jean lake, we will enjoy a lunch by the water, during which those who fancy can go for a quick horse-back walk under Christine or Anouk’s supervision. Once back at the farm and after some free time for all to explore the surroundings, find a quiet farm corner or pay a visit to the numerous farm animals, a second cooking workshop will introduce you to the ‘art’ of Galette making, Brittany’s local savoury buckwheat pancakes.
On Day 3, we will go for a second morning trail through the forest to take in the beautiful landscape before coming back together at the farm, ending the experience with a final home made lunch.
Getting There
Please note travel costs are not included and participants should organise their own travel. We will be in touch with specifics closer to the time, but we imagine everyone travelling by train or car and we will facilitate trips from the train station in Montfort-sur-Meu to Saint Jean.
By train, the itinerary from Paris is as follows:
Gare Montparnasse (Paris) > Rennes > Montfort-sur-Meu
About George Bauer
I’m George, a Melbourne raised runner, currently living in the Highlands of Scotland, fulfilling a dream to explore single track mountainous trails from my doorstep.
My inspiration comes from the vast and varied people within the wider running community and the experiences that running has brought me. I am a project designer focusing on creating community through my love of cooking, and exploring the exciting ways in which we can exercise the body and mind in a group setting. 2022 sees the launch of my new project Sunday's. Sunday's will create, deliver and share beautiful stories that educate and inspire new ways of living.
I'm very grateful for this opportunity to share this retreat with Anouk and all of you. Please reach out with any questions, ideas or worries, we always here.
